Everything was on hangers etc WE saw land the Captain came aboard the loud speaker and said that NO Passengers were aloud to go through the canal and that all passengers and their suitcases would be picked up by motor boat and brought into PanamaCity for a whole day SO all my irined clothes wwere thrown into the suitcases While the shhip eas moving we had to clomb dodn a rope ladder and get into the boat which then took us into Panama City ! I was hurrendously hoy AT least 120 degree and full of beggers We did go into a department store and one full floor was all perfume ! I think Dad let mom buy a bottle ! Then we bought fruit for the officers and boarded a train which followed the canal then we seitched to a motor boat again and had to go up a rope ladder again . Just as I was climbing onto the rope ladder the bottom of the paper bag broke and the fruit fell into the ocean !!! You should of heard the officers when they saw the fruit go down to the bottom of the sea Four more days and we were in Norfolk VA Mrs W and her daughter went off first but to evryonece horror she forgot her husbands aches aboard !!!!!! The chief enginier was in charge of them and he know no forwarding address !!!!!! I do not know HOW they ever found her !! And that was :" Doris in a deck chair !!!"
